Tutorials - VST instruments
VST instruments are software plugins such as samplers, synthesizers and drum-machines that require a VST compatible host run. energyXT2 supports audio and MIDI VST plugins. Hundreds of free and commercial VST plugins are avilable on the internet. KvR Audio is great resource to VST plugins, check it out. Setting up the root folder for your VST instruments In the main menu, select File > Setup, or press F6 to open the setup window. In setup, select Folders, then click on the Plugins section.
Finally, click the Add button, and select the root folder where you have stored your VST instruments on disk. In our example, the VST instruments are stored in c:\audio\synth After your VST folder is setup properly, you will find all your VST's in the plugins section in the browser.
Adding VST instruments to your project Adding VST instruments is as simple as click and drag from the browser into the sequencer. You can either drop int into an excisting MIDI track, or if you drop it below the last track a new MIDI track will be created automatically.
Thats it, the VST instrument is now ready to be played back! Showing the VST instruments editor Most VST instruments has a number of parameters that can be modified to create you own sounds. Most often you have access to filters and envelopes, but this can be different from one VST instrument to another. To open the VST editor, click the name on the track that the VST instrument is connected to.
In our example we have used Tau from Muon Software, a very cool synthesizer plugin with params like waveform, cutoff, q, env, decay and glide to play around with. The parameters of the VST instruement can be recorded from within the sequencer, and even controlled from an external MIDI device in real-time using the new Controller map in energyXT2.
