Tutorials - Synthesizer

New in energyXT2 is the phase modulation synthesizer with sample support. The synthesizer can split and layer synthesized and sampled sounds in any way you want, and the sound is very warm and clear.

Synth sounds

The synth sound is based on a oscillator and a modulator. The oscillator is outputting sound, while the modulator is only used to modulate the pitch of the oscillator.

Sampled sounds

Samples can be dragged from the browser into the sequencer into the current program.

Amplifier

Each sound has a volume, pan and an envelope to control volume

Filter

Each sound has its own multi-mode filter with cutoff and Q. Synthesized sounds also has a Drive option for Q, for wave shaping effects. The filter cutoff and Q can be controller by various modulation sources like envelopes, LFO's, control change and velocity.

Modulators

In the modulator section you find 4 LFO with sync, wave, trigger and delay and 5 stage envelopes with slope control for attack, decay and release. All LFO's and envelopes have 4 parameter slots for mapping to any parameter available in the sounds.

FX

Each sound has 2 insert effects, phaser and chorus/flanger, and 2aux sends for reverb and delay. Reverb and delay are global for the program and are setup in the Master section of the program.

Key and velocity zones

In the zone tab you have a list of all sounds used in the program. Here you can set root key for samples, and key zone as well as velocity zone for all sounds.

Saving programs

Wen you have made a really great sounding program, be sure to save it as a preset so that you can re-use it in other projects or share it with other energyXT users. To save a program, select Save as... from the program menu. Synthesizer presets will show up in the browser, and can be dragged dinto the sequencer.
