Tutorials - Audio parts

Audio parts in energyXT2 works as containers for audio files, also known as samples. When you record or drag & drop samples and REX2 files from the browser, a new audio part is created automatically. For an audio parts to contain multiple samples, you have to create the part first, then drag samples into it.

Setting up the root folder for your samples

In the main menu, select File > Setup, or press F6 to open the setup window. In setup, select Folders, then click on the Samples section.

Finally, click the Add button, and select the root folder where you have stored your sampels on disk. In our example, the samples instruments are stored in c:\audio\samples. After your VST folder is setup properly, you will find all your VST's in the plugins section in the browser.

Importing samples and loops to your project

To import files, simply drag samples, REX2 files or XTC audio loops from the browser into the sequencer. If you drop a file below the last track, a new audio track is created automatically.

Setting sample start/end

When you move the mouse cursor close to the start or ending edge of the audio part, the mouse will turn into a resize cursor. Then click and drag to change the start/end points.

Creating an empty audio part

After creating an empty audio part, you can drag multiple samples into it. This is very usefully for creating drum parts or grouping several smaller samples in a single part. To create a new part, double-click in the part view on the audio track, then double-click the part to open it's audio editor. Now you can drag samples from the browser into the audio part.

Sample events inside an audio part can be moved by click and drag (or ctrl + arrow keys). To make a copy, press the ctrl key while dragging the events to a new location. To delete events, highlight the events you want to delete and press the delete key.

Audio parts can be saved as XTC files, and re-imported into new projects later on.

Recording audio

Select the track you want to record into, then set the song position and finally click record to start recording into the audio track. A new audio part is created, and the sample will be recorded directly to disk. Note, before you can record anything, you have to specify an audio folder for the project. To do so, go to File > Setup to open the Setup window. Then in setup, go to the Project tab and click the Create audio folder button.
